The Project Canvas team has submitted key technical documents about the proposed connected TV service to the Digital Television Group (DTG) as it looks to be transparent with the market ahead of an OFT competition ruling next week.

The ‘Consumer Device Platform Specification and Broadcast Content Delivery Specification’ was added to the DTG’s website on 7 May, although the content is only available to paid-up DTG members.

Richard Halton, the project director for Canvas, said:  “This is an important statement of our commitment to developing a common technical standard for internet-connected TV.

“These are the first in a set of technical documents we have committed to make available via the DTG by the end of May. This transparency will help create an open, competitive market and this is essential to bringing the greatest choice of devices, content services and applications to consumers”.

Both Sky and Virgin Media have expressed concerns about the impact of Canvas on the commercial market.

The Office of Fair Trading is due to rule on its competition credentials on 19 May.

The Project Canvas partners are BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Five, TalkTalk, BT and Arqiva
