The BBC is to offer a horse's eye view of the Irish national hunt in a documentary for the Storyville strand.
In Horses (working title), Dublin-based indie Little Bird will follow three racehorses over a year. Director Liz Mermin said it will aim to draw out their personalities. Aisling Ahmed will produce the doc, a co-production with the Irish Film Board scheduled to air in 2010. Both films were ordered by Storyville commissioner Nick Fraser.
The strand will also include Naples '43-'48, directed by Ben Hopkins. The Tigerlily Films doc exposes abuses of power by British and US forces in Italy at the end of the Second World War.
"There are a lot of parallels with what's happening in Iraq - where the liberators are also the people fucking them over," said Nikki Parrott, producer and joint managing director of Tigerlily.
The 90-minute doc is planned for broadcast early next year.
