After only nine months of working for BBC Sport, Williams was selected as part of the Beijing Olympic editing team - following three years as a fully fledged editor with BBC Post Production.
Says Inside Sport assistant producer Helen Dapre: "Steve is inspiring, highly creative, innovative and always willing to make suggestions... it's a certainty that he has a brilliant career ahead of him."
Williams joined BBC Post as a trainee in 2001, and worked as an assistant editor from 2003 before becoming an editor in 2005.
He has covered a wide range of genres in that time including children's, sport, news and factual and learning programmes on titles including Blue Peter and Match of the Day.
This varied experience means Williams has accrued a great deal of technical experience and is skilled in Avid, Quantel and Photoshop. He is particularly keen on creating highly complicated layered effects.
Blue Peter director Nikki Ryan says: "He puts thought into every part of the film, from the music to the FX and everything in between, so you feel safe that you'll have something great at the end."
