BBC programmes won in 11 categories and former BBC head of comedy Jon Plowman picked up the lifetime achievement award.
In-house BBC winners included Cranford for best mini-series and Top Gear, which won a special jury prize; while Love Productions' BBC3 show The Baby Borrowers on Holiday was named best youth programme and Neal Street Productions's Stuart: A Life Backwards (BBC2) picked up two awards – best made for TV movie and the special jury award for best drama.
Channel 4 also put in a strong performance, winning four awards. The successful indies were Company Pictures (Skins), Touch Productions (Human Footprint), October Films (Dispatches: Meeting the Taliban) and Maverick (How to Look Good Naked).
Five picked up the popular science & technology award for My Brilliant Brain, its Windfall Films-made co-pro with Nat Geo Channels International.
