The BBC has teamed up with Canada's CFC (Canadian Film Centre) to launch a training programme for encouraging UK/Canadian co-production projects.
The Canada–UK Script Incubation Programme is a joint project between the BBC, BBC Worldwide, CFC and Canwest Broadcasting and will provide six TV drama writers - three from the UK and three from Canada - with mentoring from leading story consultants and writers from both countries.
The exchange scheme will begin in 2009 and it is hoped that projects developed during it will go on to receive development deals.
The programme will also aim to develop the writer's concepts, enhance their knowledge of the co-production development processes and increase their ability to manage international co-productions.
"The key to great television is a great script," said Wayne Garvie, BBC Worldwide's director of content and production. "This initiative underlines our commitment to supporting a new generation of writing talent, while our distribution network offers them an international stage on which to showcase their work."
