Format Focus: The Road Debate

A new ratings hit from Finland is styled as a "talk show on wheels".

The format
The Road Debate features controversial chat between two very different people who are taking
a road trip in a camper van.

In each episode, the programme's two hosts meet two public figures whose views and beliefs on a range of hot topics differ vastly.

Some of the areas discussed have included gay couples adopting children and building new nuclear power stations.

Who's showing it?
The original format was created by Finnish producer Aito Media Ltd in co-operation with YLE Current Affairs. It was broadcast on YLE TV2 in 2007 and attracted a 36% audience share.

Coming to the UK?
Canadian-based distributor Distraction has picked up the UK rights to the programme and will be pitching the format to UK broadcasters.

Could it work here?
Possibly. If they got Brown and Cameron on the road it could bring new meaning to road rage.
