New Garfield slopes over to Cartoon Network

Cartoon Network has acquired a new CGI series based around comic strip cat Garfield.

The deal between Cartoon Network-owner Turner Broadcasting and French producer Dargaud Media will see the new series broadcast across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Asia Pacific and Latin America in 2009.

The 52 x 11-minute CGI episodes of The Garfield Show will be shot in HD and will introduce the fictional feline to fresh audiences in a new medium, having previously been produced using traditional 2D animation.

The series will coincide with the 30th anniversary of Garfield, which was originally created as a comic strip by Jim Davis.
