Two cities battle it out to decide which one is more eco-friendly in a new format from Norway.
The format
The Power Play is a six-part series in which two cities are challenged to reduce CO2 emissions and simultaneously save the maximum amount of money. Spread across six weeks, the show features a team from each city, made up of one family, one large cornerstone company, the city's football club and the mayor.
The teams are put through a series of environmental challenges which culminate in a studio-based final. The challenges include using as little electricity as possible, cutting down consumption and finding greener methods of transport. The teams are judged on their performance by the Climate Panel, which comprises a researcher who calculates their CO2 emissions and a group of students.
At the end of the series the two teams come together in the studio where they are told which of them has done the most to improve their city and who has won the grand prize.
Who's showing it?
The original series aired in Norway on NRK1 at the beginning of last year. The channel has just ordered a second run, due to air in January 2010.
Coming to the UK?
The international rights were picked up by Zeal Entertainment, which is pitching the format in the UK.
Could it work here?
Green is a fashionable colour at the moment and the show would offer TV channels the
chance to stress their ecological credentials.
