Format focus: War

Contestants wage war on their opponents to win the final battle in this trivia-based gameshow.

The format
War features five contestants who answer questions on a chosen subject and face rules inspired by battle tactics.

The game takes place on a set designed as a target featuring five rings. Each ring represents a different level, which the contestants have to complete in order to get to the centre. Whoever gets to the centre the quickest wins the first battle.

During the first elimination round, each contestant is able to declare war on his or her opponents twice. This involves forcing them to answer questions unrelated to their chosen area of expertise. They have two chances to get it right. If they win, the player who declared war takes the hit. If they lose, they are out of the game.

Under the target is an image of a famous personality, which is slowly revealed with each correct answer. The winner of the first round must then guess the identity of the personality and, if they do so correctly, they are asked a trivia question about the personality. If the contestant gets it right, they win the war.

Who's showing it?
The format has just been launched and has yet to be picked up by any broadcasters.

Coming to the UK?
War will be launched to the international market at Mipcom 2008 in October by worldwide rights holders Armoza Formats.

Could it work here?
Possibly. Some of the less PC aspects might need toning down, but it's an unusual format that could offer something different.
