A new dating show from the US unites the passion of sport with the fire of romance.
The format
Sox Appeal features a male or female sports fan going on three blind dates while watching a Boston Red Sox baseball game live at the stadium. The show focuses on both the match being played and the dates going on in the crowd.
The date is filmed in much the same way as the match, with commentators giving a play-by-play version of events. Baseball fans around the couple are also able to offer them their advice on dating. Towards the end of the match, the sports fan gets to decide which date he or she would like to continue seeing.
The format was recently showcased to the international market at Discop in Budapest, with the title Single Seats. IMG Entertainment, which owns the international rights to the property, plans to adapt it for each market, using the country's most popular sport.
Who's showing it?
Sox Appeal was created by Scout Productions (Queer Eye for the Straight Guy) and aired on 1 August 2007 on the New England Sports Network. A second season is expected to go out this August.
Coming to the UK?
IMG Entertainment is currently in talks with UK broadcasters.
Could it work here?
Some action in the stands might be just what's required to liven up a nil-nil draw.
