Content Focus: The Big British Food Map

A new Channel 4 website aims to create a map of the UK's favourite food places.

The format
As Gordon Ramsay launches his campaign to promote seasonal British produce, Channel 4 launches an online offering, The Big British Food Map, which aims to help gourmands get the most from
the nation's -gastronomic delights.

The site will create a "little black book" of the UK's favourite local food places by generating a community of users who will contribute their local knowledge to collectively build a map of
recommendations. Food blogger Andrew Webb is roving across the UK's eateries, shops and markets and describing his experiences in an online diary. The site also features recipes and advice on eating ethically.

Its launch follows the huge online response to C4's campaigning season The Big Food Fight
in January. During the season's run, www.channel4.com/food became the most visited food website in Britain. New media producer at C4 Catherine Jackson said: "The response showed that people are really interested in where their food comes from."

Other successful social networking sites for foodies include UKTV's Local Heroes, in which people vote for local food suppliers. It was the UK's number one food site in 2006, winning a Broadcast award.

Who's behind it?
The site was commissioned by C4's new media team, produced by Catherine Jackson and project managed by Tom Powell. Mark Limb worked on the design, and the map technology comes from creative agency World Archipelago.
