A multiplatform show for C4 films a variety of young people in a formative year of their lives.

The format
Year Dot will follow 15 young people aged 16 to 20 through an important year in their lives in a 12-month Channel 4 multiplatform project that goes live on 30 June. The project, from So TV,  tracks them as they make difficult decisions and live through the consequences.

But that is where the common ground ends, according to project editor Colin Hancock: "We have chosen a diverse set of youngsters, different ethnic backgrounds, a range of educational opportunities. We wanted to engage with as broad an audience as possible."

Among others, Year Dot follows a young student about to embark on a career as a stand-up comedian and a 16 year old who will give up her role as her father's carer for a place at boarding school. A third participant is about to have his second child and is looking to balance family life and work while staying out of trouble.

The format will look at how the interaction with online communities influences the outcome of the decisions made.

The website will comprise video diaries and blogs from the individuals uploaded on a daily basis and an interview featuring professionally shot footage once every two or three weeks.

The television strand will comprise 30 x 30-minute documentaries to air on C4 in three blocks. The first 10 episodes will air Monday to Friday for two weeks between 22 September and 3 October. The second block will air in early February with the third to follow.
