Endemol poaches Toumazis from Disney

Endemol has hired Disney executive Tom Toumazis as chief commercial officer.

Toumazis will manage and expand Endemol's international sales distribution business, as well as third party distribution, co-production and pre-sales of scripted programming.

The role puts him in charge of the multiplatform distribution of more than 2,200 non-scripted formats and 200 scripted programmes.

Toumazis has been at Disney since 2001 and prior to his departure managed sales and distribution as executive vice president and managing director Disney-ABC-ESPN Television for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Canada.

Among the shows he helped to sell internationally were ABC's Desperate Housewives, Lost and Grey's Anatomy and Disney Channel franchises such as High School Musical and Hannah Montana.

At Endemol, he will report to the group's chief executive officer Ynon Kreiz, who described him as "a world class executive of the highest calibre".

Kreiz added: "He is an exceptionally skilled operator and couldn't be more qualified to lead the expansion of our commercial activities and growth of our distribution business, an area where we see significant opportunities. We are very excited to have him on board and look forward to welcoming him to our global team."
