BBC children's is facing budget cuts of around 5% each year for the next five years.

BBC children's controller Richard Deverell said he was under pressure to make cuts across children's programming following the lower than expected licence fee.

He said: 'Every department within the BBC is being asked to make efficiencies and children's is no different.

'It looks like we are going to lose something in the region of 5% over each of the next five years.'

Deverell said it wasn't clear if the cuts would affect the overall programming budget.

He said the current budget for CBeebies and CBBC is £17m.
