The BBC is launching a commissioning system which will allow programme makers to submit proposals electronically and track their progress via the internet.

The system, which will be rolled-out in March, has been designed to protect the confidentiality of ideas as proposals will only be seen by the relevant people in commissioning and those who submitted the proposal.

The aim is to enable BBC Vision to handle the huge volume of ideas it receives faster and more effectively. It will be available to both in-house programme makers and independents.

BBC Vision director Jana Bennett said: 'Vision moves fully into multiplatform commissioning this April and capturing every proposal on this website means that we can spend more time developing the very best creative ideas.

'And because this system makes it easier to track the progress of proposals, we can ensure there's a level playing field for independents and in-house production as the WOCC becomes operational.'

Further information on how to register will be made available later this month.
