Social network Bebo, in association with Endemol UK, is launching a ‘reality based’ interactive drama called The Gap Year.
The interactive series will follow six people from the Bebo community on a globe-trotting journey.
Endemol and Bebo are looking for three men and three women to represent the UK, Ireland, America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
An interactive audition process will be unveiled on Bebo. A casting call in December 2007 will see users nominate themselves by submitting a video postcard about their ‘dream’ Gap Year.
The video auditions will be shared on Bebo with the online community able to vote for its favourite hopefuls.
The Gap Year contestants will travel the world facing a series of challenges, all the time documenting their experiences through posting video diaries, blogs and photos on the site.
Bebo users will be able to view exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and a half hour catch-up show will also be broadcast each week on the site.
Members of the Bebo community will also be able to share travel tips, create their own travel encyclopaedia, comment on The Gap Year blogs and vote in weekly polls which will have a direct influence on how the contestant’s journeys unravel.
Competitions on the site with prizes - including being able to join some contestants on their journey - will also be available.
Bebo pioneered the interactive drama format in the UK with Kate Modern and followed this with Sofia's Diary, both allowing viewers to live the drama through the characters profiles and media on the social network.
This is the first time that the format has been moved into the ‘reality’ genre.
The Gap Year will be filmed in 2008 and is scheduled to air exclusively on Bebo.com.
