Virgin Media TV-owned Challenge has renewed its deal for the exclusive UK rights to coverage of the Miss World final.
The channel has secured the rights from UK-based distributor Zeal Entertainment to air the live two-hour final of the beauty contest, which will be held in China on 1 December.
Challenge acquired the show for the first time last year, attracting a third more 16 to 34-year-old viewers than the channel average. The total audience share was up 141% on the slot average.
The Miss World final is broadcast in almost 200 countries and is one of the largest live annual TV events in the world.
Celia Taylor, director of programmes for Virgin 1, Bravo, Bravo 2, Trouble and Challenge, said: “Miss World is a total joy. It’s a fantastic enduring brand that adds real glitz and glamour to Challenge’s winter schedule.”
The deal was secured by Challenge acquisitions executive Brad Wood and Zeal Enter-tainment’s Lisette Schlippe.
The competition has not been shown on terrestrial television since 2004, when ITV aired it in an off-peak slot.
