Nina Conti lands BBC1 pilot

British actress, ventriloquist and comedian Nina Conti is to front a Mr and Mrs-style BBC1 comedy gameshow pilot.

Conti will host a non-TX recording of Speak for Yourself, where with the help of her puppet characters, she will test how well couples know each other and work together.

The contestants could be in line to win a cash prize if they perform well in the show, which is being produced by Burning Bright Productions at ITV’s London Studios on 1 December.

Conti’s best-known characters are Monkey and Granny, who will both chip in with questions during the pilot, which will have a cheeky, upbeat edge.

It comes hot on the heels of Conti winning a Grierson award this week for her BBC4 documentary Nina & Monkey’s Search For Enlightenment. The film was produced by Alaska TV.

Burning Bright Productions recent shows include Richard E Grant’s Hotel Secrets and Adam Buxton’s Bug, both of which were made for Sky Atlantic.
