Former reality TV contestant and ex-MP Edwina Currie and shadow home secretary David Davis have both criticised the editing of Celebrity Big Brother.
Former reality TV contestant and ex-MP Edwina Currie and shadow home secretary David Davis have both criticised the editing of Celebrity Big Brother.Speaking on last night's Question Time, Currie told the audience the action was being 'influenced behind the scenes'.
Currie, a former contestant on reality show Hell's Kitchen, said: 'I have been on reality programmes and I know that they get told to behave themselves in certain ways.'
When asked by host David Dimbleby whether it was phoney, she said: 'Of course… the editors are very cynical on this. They are brilliant editors, it is riveting watching but it is deeply offensive stuff that is being broadcast.'
She described Jo O'Meara, Danielle Lloyd and Jade Goody as 'witches with a capital B'.
Speaking about Lloyd, Currie, originally from Liverpool, said: 'Every time I hear that Scouse accent with that filthy mouth I just cringe.'
She went on to call Shilpa Shetty a beautiful lady, while labelling O'Meara, Lloyd and Goody 'slags'.
Also on the show, shadow home secretary David Davis said the real people to blame were the show's editors who decide what goes out on air.
He said: 'I do hope when the regulator comes to look at it they think about the editing and why they edited it the way they did.'
He also accused C4 of cashing in on the scandal: 'The more of this happens, the more controversial this is, the more people that watch and the more money they make.'
Following the complaints against the show, C4 said it would donate the money from tonight's vote to charity.
