Tony Jordan's indie, Red Planet Pictures, is set to make its first foray into comedy and has teamed up with writer-performers Mark Gatiss and Julia Davies on its first project.
The pair are currently writing a comedy for the indie, which was set up earlier this year by Life on Mars co-creator Jordan.
The project is in the early stages of development and details are being kept under wraps, but Jordan said he hoped it would be the start of a new comedy division within Red Planet. Gatiss and Davies previously acted together in Davies-penned BBC3 comedy Nighty Night and BBC4 drama Fear of Fanny, which looked at the life of 1970s chef Fanny Craddock.
Jordan said: "I feel privileged to have Mark and Julia working with us on our first comedy project as I think their sheer quality and expertise in this genre is unprecedented. The project is a step into the unknown for Red Planet but is incredibly exciting and holds real promise for all of us."
