Tern Television will give six people the chance to beat their modern lifestyle addictions in an 8 x 30-minute series for BBC Northern Ireland.
The Last Resort is set at a rural retreat in County Down and offers the six participants the chance to confront their problems.
They have nine days to transform their lives through a three-pronged approach led by a trio of world-class experts. Their treatment combines psychoanalysis with alternative therapies, and the opportunity to look ahead to the future with the help of a life coach.
The Last Resort is series produced by Nicki Young, directed by Morag Tinto and executive produced by Colin Cameron for Tern Television.
Tern has also won a second commission. The 60-minute Rape… Crisis examines sexual abuse and rape in Northern Ireland through the eyes of the women who work in the only Rape Crisis Centre in the region.
The centre counsels more 3,000 survivors annually and listens to over 40 new calls a week, but the film follows the desperate struggle to keep it running as the government axes their funding.
Rape… Crisis is directed by Alison Millar for Tern Television. Both were commissioned by Fergus Keeling at BBC NI and are due to air in the autumn 2008.
Head of Tern Northern Ireland Alison Millar said the films explored the realities of modern life in Northern Ireland today.
BBC NI head of programmes Ailsa Orr said the commissions would bring dynamic and distinctive home-grown programmes to local audiences.
