Indie Summit to reveal how to win commissions

BBC Studios also in spotlight

Broadcast’s forthcoming Indie Summit will see prominent producers reveal tips on winning commissions, and feature BBC Studios director Mark Linsey in discussion about the new division.

Linsey will appear alongside All3Media chief operating officer and Pact council chair and Sara Geater, Nine Lives Media chief executive Cat Lewis and Tinopolis director of content David Mortimer f

The session will examine how BBCS will compare to an existing production company, as well as the impact of competitive tendering on the wider sector. It will also explore how production in the nations and regions is evolving, and other significant factors affecting the industry. .

In another session, called How I Got My Show Commissioned, the titles in the spotlight will be Keo Films’ Exodus for BBC2, Maverick’s Escape for Channel 4 and Lime Pictures’ forthcoming kids drama for Netflix.

Keo creative director Will Anderson, Maverick chief executive officer Simon Knight and Lime Pictures managing director Kate Little will reveal how the shows were developed, pitched and modified to get them over the line.

Elsewhere, The Garden chief exec Nick Curwin, Knickerbockerglory managing director Jonathan Stadlen and Curve Media chief exec Camilla Lewis will explore what is required to maintain and expand a production company in Five Ways to Grow Your Indie.

Topics up for discussion include moving into new genres, building world-class development teams, hiring senior executives and exploring how to make it in the US.
