BBC casts Victor 'Spelldrew' in Merlin

Indie Shine is to begin filming next week on Merlin, which stars the One Foot In The Grave actor as Gaius, the court physician who becomes mentor to the young Merlin, played by Colin Morgan.

Newcomer Bradley James plays the young Arthur, with Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Anthony Head as his father, Angel Golby as Guinevere and Katie McGrath as Morgana.

The series was ordered by BBC fiction controller Jane Tranter to run in the autumn in the slot occupied at other points in the year by Doctor Who and Robin Hood.

FremantleMedia Enterprises will be distributing Merlin internationally as well as overseeing all licensing activity.
