Five revives Going for Gold with 50-episode order
Host Henry Kelly has been replaced by former Five News newsreader John Suchet, but the show's four British contestants will take on the same rounds as the original: beat the buzzer, four-in-a-row and head to head.
Fifty episodes of the 60-minute show will be produced live by Fremantle Media's Talkback Thames. The show will air from mid-October, stripped across weekdays at 12.45pm. It will be executive produced by Richard Holloway and Peter Cassidy. The series producer is Mark Noades.
A second, 10-minute show called Going for Gold Extra will go out at 2.50pm featuring the champion from the earlier show competing with a viewer for a cash prize.
Viewers enter the competition during the main show by ringing a premium rate phone line or by registering online to get a free-phone number.
Going for Gold is being eyed as a potential regular feature in Five's afternoon schedule to replace Brainteaser, which was axed last year after a phone-in scandal.
The original Going for Gold ended in 1996 after a 10-year run in a BBC1 afternoon slot.
