Fox acquires Endemol's online prison drama

Fox International Channels has picked up the first in a planned series of online programmes for its global network of websites.

The Cell is a 20 x 2-minute drama series about a man who finds himself locked in a lawless prison with no idea of how or why he got there.

Mobile network O2 commissioned the drama from Endemol and it has subsequently been distributed on Sony's US web video service crackle.com.

FIC's online publishing arm will broadcast the drama internationally from one main website www.thecell.tv and will promote it locally in each territory, including on FXUK.com in the UK. FIC is now looking for sponsors and syndication partners.

FIC's vice-president of global online publishing Pablo Silver said: “This is a very exciting project for us and something we intend to do more and more. We already have our eyes on a number of other properties, similar shows that we can launch in the same way”.

FIC will launch the hosting sites for The Cell in October.
