Liz Murdoch honoured at awards

Shine chief executive Elisabeth Murdoch and actress and writer Julia Davis were among the winners at this year’s Women in Film and Television awards.

The X-Factor judge Simon Cowell presented Murdoch with the business award at last night’s ceremony at The Hilton on Park Lane.

Davis, who wrote and starred in BBC4 black comedy series Nighty Night and later played Fanny Craddock in the channel's biopic Fear of Fanny, was honoured with a prize for creative originality.

BBC World correspondent Lyse Doucet won a news and factual award, while BBC Films’ head of rights and commercial affairs Jane Wright took home the project management award.

Other winners included chief executive of TV marketing body Thinkbox Tess Alps and Harry Potter creator J K Rowling.

Channel 4 founder Sir Jeremy Isaacs led the evening’s tribute to Verity Lambert, who died last month, just days after WFTV announced it would be honouring her with a lifetime achievement award.

Novelist Reggie Nadelson, a friend of Lambert's, read out an acceptance speech prepared by the Doctor Who and Jonathan Creek producer the day before she passed away.
