Sky One orders Cole thrillers

Sky One will adapt two bestsellers by crime author Martina Cole as part of its multimillion pound investment in drama.

Warner Sisters Productions has teamed up with Company Pictures to co-produce The Take and The Graft.

The Take is a 4 x 60-minute series, which tells the story of husband and wife Freddie and Jackie Jackson. Jackie is preparing to welcome Freddie home after six years in prison but, after serving his time, he now thinks he is the Essex equivalent of the Godfather.

The Graft is about a hardworking, successful businessman whose life is turned upside down when a masked intruder breaks into his home.

The programmes were ordered by Sky One director of programmes Richard Woolfe and Sky One drama commissioner Elaine Pyke. Lavinia Warner is the executive producer on both shows.

“I introduced Elaine and Martina a couple of years ago,” Warner told Broadcast. “It's great that Sky One now has the cash to invest in these productions.”

Both dramas are scheduled to air in 2009, with The Take airing first. They form part of Sky One's eight-figure commitment to HD drama in 2008/9, as revealed by Broadcast. Other dramas include adaptations of Chris Ryan's Strike Back, David Almond's Skellig and Going Postal by Terry Pratchett.
