Torchwood goes Dutch

Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood is to get its first outing in Belgium and Holland as part of a major new content deal between BBC Worldwide and the Sci Fi channel.

BBCW confirmed the sale of 133 hours of programming to the Sci Fi channel in Benelux on the opening day of its Showcase event in Brighton.

As well as Torchwood, the deal will also see territory premieres for the third and fourth series of Doctor Who, crime drama Murder Prevention and political thriller The State Within. Jekyll, a modern version of the split-personality classic starring James Nesbitt, is also included in the package.

A spokesman for Sci Fi said: “The latest acquisition of these BBC series help reinforce our position as the number one sci-fi, crime and thriller channel on digital TV in the Benelux region.”

BBCW will host Showcase at the De Vere Grand Hotel in Brighton until Wednesday, 1 March.
