Russell T awarded OBE

Russell T Davies, the show runner who breathed new life into Doctor Who for the BBC, has won an OBE for his services to drama in the Queen's Birthday honours.

"I hope it does the whole industry a bit of good, for the writing of television drama to be recognised," he said.

Other TV industry figures to receive an award include chat show host Paul O'Grady and June Brown, the EastEnders actress who plays Dot Cotton, who both won MBEs.

Countdown presenter Des O'Connor and actress, comedian and sketch writer Victoria Wood were also recognised, each with a CBE.
