Morse author honoured at Crime Thriller Awards

Inspector Morse author Colin Dexter has been presented with a prestigious prize for his crime-fighting creation by Prime Suspect star Dame Helen Mirren.

Dexter won the ITV3 Writer's Award for Classic TV Drama at the ITV3 Crime Thriller Awards, held in London on Friday (3 October).

BBC thriller Criminal Justice beat competition from Ashes to Ashes, He Kills Coppers, The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, Spooks and Wire in the Blood to take the TV Crime Drama of the Year.

The final season US drama The Wire saw off challenges from CSI, Dexter, Numb3rs, CSI: Miami and Shark to walk away with the gong for International Crime Drama of the Year.

Spooks stars Hermione Norris and Rupert Penry-Jones both picked up prizes for their leading roles in the BBC spy drama.

Ricky Gervais was also on presenting duty, handing out silverware for Film of the Year, The Bourne Ultimatum. The ITV3 Crime Thriller Awards will be broadcast on tonight (6 October) at 10pm on ITV3.
