ITV3 controller Emma Tennant is looking to expand her channel remit to include formatted factual programming and comedy.
About 85% of all programming on ITV3 is drama-related but Tennant is looking for "glossy, aspirational lifestyle programmes" similar to Grand Designs to run on the channel while ITV1 broadcasts new dramas.
"I don't want 'how to' shows, like how to make over your garden. I want programmes that are much more beautiful, like Grand Designs and Property List."
Tennant and commissioning editor of features Diana Howie have also ordered a five-part comedy context show from ITV Productions to run next year.
Beyond a Joke will look at issues such as gender, class and race through the comedies of the 1970s and 1980s.
As well as clips from the likes of On the Buses and The Young Ones, the documentary will feature interviews with industry veterans John Cleese, Carla Lane and Paul Nicholas.
