Supersize Me’s BBC2 history lesson

Restaurant critic Giles Coren and presenter Sue Perkins will resort to eating post-Second World War rations as part of a run of themed Supersize Me shows on BBC2.

Supersize Me: Food History (working title) is a 6 x 60-minute series made by indie Silver River, which builds on the success of its Edwardian Supersize Me, which aired on BBC4 as part of its Edwardian week in early summer.

The themed programmes for the six new episodes will also include the 1970s and the eras of writers including Shakespeare, Dickens and Austen.

The series features the 21st-century foodies having to eat the cuisine and portions that would have been typically served up in the respective periods.

Experts will also be on hand to talk about what is being eaten followed by an analysis of what the food has done to the presenters’ bodies.

Supersize Me: Food History is executive produced by Silver River’s Daisy Goodwin and series produced by Alannah Richardson.

It was ordered by the BBC’s Ben Gale and BBC2 controller Roly Keating.
The series is set to air in 2008.
