Edinburgh Festival reveals channel awards nominees

ITV2's Secret Diary of a Call Girl

The shortlists have been drawn up for the MediaGuardian Edinburgh International Television Festival's 7th annual Channel of the Year awards.

Digital channels BBC3 and BBC4 will fight Dave, E4, ITV2 and Sky One for the best non terrestrial channel award, whilst BBC One and BBC Two will battle ITV, Channel 4 and Five for the best terrestrial prize.

The trophies were claimed last year by BBC1 and ITV2, which found success with The Secret Diary of a Call Girl amongst others.

The shortlists have been drawn up using the results of an online YouGov poll based on criteria such as programming, innovation, targeting and channel branding. Members of the public have been voting since the end of April and the winners will be revealed during the festival awards ceremony on Saturday 23 August 2008.

There are five awards in total including two brand new categories – best terrestrial programme of the year and best non terrestrial programme of the year. The Network and Fast Track choice Award will also be announced.
