Five lands first choice Uefa deal

Five will have first choice of matches in each round of the Uefa Cup for the next three years after signing a new deal with the European football governing body.

The deal was concluded at the same time as ITV's coverage deal and will guarantee Five 15 games a year from 2009-10 to 2011-12. The channel has also got exclusive rights to the Uefa Cup final for the period.

For the first time, TV rights for the tournament from the group stage onwards have been sold collectively rather than by the individual clubs involved.

Five negotiated the agreement with sports marketing agency T.E.A.M, which distributed the TV rights on behalf of Uefa.
