UTV, the Irish media group which owns Talksport, has revealed that it might be interested in acquisitions and that Virgin Radio could be on its shopping list.

In an interview with the Financial Times, UTV Radio managing director Scott Taunton said the company was considering a bid for Virgin Radio. He said that if the acquisition went ahead the two stations could save money by 'co-locating' and would sell airtime to advertisers on both stations.

UTV has already tried to buy Virgin Radio twice this year with no success. A change in ownership of Virgin Radio would mean brand owner Richard Branson would be able to reassess the licence to use the Virgin name.
