Virgin 1 will focus on the topical issue of dangerous dogs in a one-off documentary.
Death Row Dogs is a 50-minute film produced by Raw TV. It follows the cases of British dog owners who are appealing against the destruction of their pets, as well as the wardens and policemen who are trying to rid the streets of dangerous dogs.
The documentary was ordered by Virgin 1’s senior commissioning editor Lucy Pilkington and was executive produced by Lucy Willis for Raw TV.
“With more than 3,000 people bitten in the UK each year, this topical documentary will explore the challenges faced by the authorities and owners of dangerous dogs and will be uncomfortable viewing for the UK’s huge population of dog lovers,” said director of programming for Virgin 1 Celia Taylor.
Death Row Dogs follows a growing line-up of factual entertainment programmes recently commissioned for the channel. Others include Penis Envy and Crime Invasion: Britain’s New Underworld.
Programming director Taylor will go on maternity leave before the end of the year, with her role covered by Daniela Neumann.
Virgin 1 launched on 1 October and is available on Virgin Media, BSkyB and Freeview. Other shows on the channel include The Riches and Criminal Minds.
