Virgin 1, the general entertainment channel from Virgin Media TV, will launch on 1 October.US shows including The Riches, The Sarah Connor Chroniclesand the Star Trekfranchise have been purchased ahead of the channel's roll out on cable, satellite and Freeview.
Other content includes The Great British Penis: Penis Envy, a 1 x 60-minute primetime show made by UK indie TwoFour.
Virgin Media TV is the content division of cable operator Virgin Media.
Virgin 1 is a rival to Sky One, which was removed from the cable platform - along with other Sky basic channels - earlier this year after failed carriage negotiations between Sky and Virgin Media.
However, Virgin Media says it was always planning to launch the channel and it was not as a result of losing Sky One.
