Virgin Radio branches out into ad-funded film podcasts

Virgin Radio is launching an ad-funded movie podcast service as part of its search for new revenue streams.
Movies Extra will take a look at the latest cinema and DVD movie releases and will be produced in-house by the commercial station's newly created audio business division.
The podcasts will be hosted by Virgin Radio DJ Ben Jones and will be uploaded every Friday so listeners get all the latest information on the big releases before heading to the cinema or shops. It will also feature interviews with film stars.
Jones will be joined by Virgin entertainment reporter Adrian Hieatt, who will keep listeners up to date with news and gossip with exclusive access to cast and crew at film premieres.
The 10-minute podcasts will be available to download for free from www.virginradio.co.uk and iTunes.
Clive Dickens, chief operating officer of Virgin Radio owner TIML Radio, said innovation was key to its future as a digital broadcaster. "Recent figures showed we have doubled our reach through our podcasts. Clearly they are added value for both our listeners and our commercial clients."
