The third run of The Secret Millionaire went from strength to strength this week as the second show in the series gained its highest-ever audience.
The 60-minute RDF Media production saw its audience on Tuesday 12 August rise from an initial 3.3 million/14.7% share at 9pm to 4.1 million/18.0% in the final 15 minutes, giving it an average of 3.7 million/16.4%. The factual entertainment format was some way above Channel 4's average performance in that slot so far this year of 2.2 million/9.3%.
The episode also aired an hour later on C4+1 and picked up an average audience of 257,000. The combined audience made it the third most popular factual show to air on C4 so far this year.
At the time, the C4 show was the second most popular on TV. It beat ITV1's Trinny and Susannah Undress the Nation on 2.2 million/9.6%, Five's CSI: Miami on 2.3 million/10.3% and new BBC2 music series Maestro, which attracted 1.7 million/7.9% over 90 minutes. Only BBC1 had more viewers at 9pm, with Bonekickers ending its run with 4.3 million/19.1%.
The first episode of the new run of The Secret Millionaire averaged 3.4 million/13.6% the previous week.
