Best day ever for Fiver

Fiver, the female-skewing digital channel from Five, secured its best ever all hours performance on the August bank holiday with a combined share of 1.15%.

The main channel, which runs from 6am to midnight, secured a share of 0.98% with the time shifted option Fiver+1 picking up an extra 0.17%.

The channel's previous best performance had been a share of 1.03% on 4 May this year.

The channel originally launched on 15 October 2006 as Five Life and since then has averaged an all hours share of 0.45%.

Over the entire day the channel, which has a slot on the Freeview platform, had a larger share than Film 4, Virgin 1, Sky One as well as BBC3 and BBC4.

Just a shade behind was Film 4 with a total share of 1.14%. Further down the field with a share of 0.74% was Virgin 1. The BBC's youth entertainment channel BBC3 claimed a share of 0.85% while BBC4 managed 0.32%. All four channels have a slot on Freeview.

Sky One ended the day on a 0.74% share while Living managed 0.69%.

Fiver though was still some way off the multichannel leader ITV2 which took an all hours share of 2.29%. Also putting in a strong performance was E4 which took a share of 1.84%. Not too far behind E4 was ITV3 on 1.77%.

Fiver benefitted most from a trio of films that aired from 4.05pm. The channel's biggest ratings attraction of the day was the 2003 Eddie Murphy film Daddy Day Care at 9pm which averaged 333,000 (1.7%) for nearly two hours. The film picked up a further 68,000 on Fiver+1. Earlier at 6.30pm the children's film Hook appealed to 287,000 (1.5%) with a further 91,000 watching an hour later.

Tim Burton's fantasy drama Big Fish, starring Ewan McGregor and Albert Finney, at 4.05pm gained 126,000 (1.1%). The film was watched by 22,000 on the time shifted option.

The most watched multichannel show of the day was ITV2's screening of the 1990 film Pretty Woman. The movie, starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, at 9pm had a combined audience of 626,000 (3.48%).
