ITV4 wins as Man City lose

ITV4's live Uefa Cup coverage pulled off a ratings victory last night with a 15-minute peak audience of 936,000 (4.88%) at 9.15pm as Manchester City lost 1-0.

The qualifying game, between the English side and FC Midtjylland, hit a five-minute high of 996,000 (5.2%) at the end of the match at 9.30pm.

ITV4's entire coverage between 7pm and 10pm averaged 547,000 (3.16%), well above the channel's slot average for last year of 331,000 (1.76%).

The game, for the most part, dominated multichannel viewing whilst it was on but was given a run for its money by Five US.

Five's male-skewing entertainment channel gained a strong 515,000 (2.99%) for its action movie Shadow Man starring Steven Seagal. The film drew an extra 63,000 on Five US+1.

Film 4 was also fighting fit at 9pm thanks to Braveheart at 9pm on 386,000 (2.88%). The film was also watched by 97,000 on Film 4+1 ITV2's film, Be Cool, also at 9pm appealed to 290,000 (1.78%) and another 22,000 on the timeshifted option.

BBC3 also managed a strong showing at 9pm with the launch of its new series Britain's Really Disgusting Foods. The hour-long show charmed 431,000 (2.27%). The corporation's youth entertainment channel though attracted 766,000 (4.59%) at 10pm for its visit to Albert Square.
