BBC3's new comedy sketch show The Wrong Door attracted 546,000 (3.5%) at 10.30pm last night, the highest ever audience for the launch of a comedy on the channel.
The half-hour programme peaked in the final 15 minutes on 564,000 (3.8%). The first episode of the six-part series was just behind the channel's slot average of 558,000 (4.1%).
ITV2 was hot on BBC3's tail, with sci-fi movie The Chronicles of Riddick pulling in 543,000 (2.9%) over two hours from 9pm. The film, starring Thandie Newton and Karl Urban, hit a high of 678,000 (3.3%) at 10pm.
Putting in a respectable showing at 10pm was the second part of BBC4's Blood and Guts: A History of Surgery. It claimed 321,000 (1.8%) over an hour, while Big Brother's Big Mouth on E4 claimed a solid 307,000 (1.5%) at 10pm, including the viewers for the show on E4+1.
Film 4 also proved attractive to viewers at 9pm with The Wedding Date luring a total audience of 426,000 (2%) for 95-minutes.
But while The Wrong Door was a hit for BBC3, the channel's ongoing Fame Junkies series had a tough time.
The third outing of the show at 9pm could only interest 89,000 (0.3%) for an hour. The show was down by 75% on the channel's slot average for the year of 354,000 (1.8%) and was easily outclassed by most of the channel's competitiors.
More 4's Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares USA, in the same slot, had 335,000 (1.5%). Even BBC4's Casualty 1906, which had previously aired on BBC1, took 246,000 (1.1%).
