Murray defeat serves 1.2m

Sky Sports 1 was the most watched station in multichannel homes last night (8 September) as 1.2 million viewers tuned in to watch Andy Murray's defeat in the final of the US Open.

In multichannel homes, Sky Sports 1 beat even BBC1 and ITV1 after 10.45pm as viewers saw Murray defeated by Roger Federer in the grand slam final.

An average 1.18m watched the match over the two hour broadcast, starting at 10pm. Viewership peaked in the 15 minutes after 10.45pm, when 1.36m were watching.

Over the same period in multichannel homes, BBC1's new series The Dark Side of Fame with Piers Morgan delivered 1.26m while the beginning of David Lynch movie Blue Velvet entertained 1.14m on ITV1.

Sky Sports 1 was only overtaken by ITV1 at 12.15am. The performance beats the 1.03m who tuned into Sky Sports 1 on Sunday night to watch Murray beat Rafael Nadal.
