Little Sunshine for BBC1

BBC1's new drama comedy Sunshine managed to just win the slot at 9pm but could only bring in 3.7m (16.7%).

The hour-long opening episode, featuring well-known names such as Steve Coogan and Craig Cash, began with 3.9m (17.7%), levelled out to 3.5m (16%) for half an hour from 9.15pm before having a small rally to 3.7m (17.1%) in the final 15-minutes.

The show was down by 24.4% on the channel's slot average for the year so far of 4.9m (21%).

The drama brought in a solid upmarket audience as ABC1 viewers made up 45% of the show's audience. Younger viewers found it much less appealing as just 11.7% of the audience were aged between 16 and 34.

Despite Sunshine failing to light up the ratings the show did still manage to win the slot, if only just.

ITV1's factual Cops with Cameras, in the same slot, pulled in a steady 3.6m (16.2%). The commercial network's show failed to hit the slot average of 4.3m (18.4%).

For the second week running Channel 4's Jamie's Ministry of Food at 9pm broke the three million mark with 3.1m (14.3%) tuning in at 9pm. The show peaked with 3.3m (15.4%) at the end. Another 123,00 tuned in an hour later to see the same episode of the series at 10pm.

The corporation's other terrestrial channel, BBC2, also had a tough time at 9pm with a new show. The five-part factual run, which looked at the history of British fashion, could only charm 1m (4.6%) for an hour. The show was significantly down on the slot average of 1.7m (7.1%) for the year so far. The show though did bring in a hefty upmarket audience with 61.3% of its audience falling into the ABC1 category.

Five's CSI: Miami maintained its rock solid stance with 2.6m (11.9%) watching for an hour in the key 9pm slot.
