Viewers seek Sanctuary on ITV4

The second outing of ITV4's hit sci-fi drama series Sanctuary averaged 533,000 (2.71%) at 9pm, a rise of 28,000 on last week.

The 60-minute show held a largely steady audience throughout but managed to hit a peak of 540,000 (2.70%) in the opening 15-minutes. Once again the US import was way above the channel's slot average for the year so far of 193,000 (0.94%).

Last week the show, which combines actors with virtual sets, launched in the same slot with 505,000 (2.54%).

Sanctuary helped ITV4 to its best ever Monday peaktime performance (7pm to 10.30pm) with a share of 1.8%. Earlier at 8pm Primeval had 374,000 (1.81%).

While ITV4's show managed to grow its audience week-on-week, the second part of BBC4's documentary series suffered a significant fall.

Last night's The Story of Maths, at 9pm, interested 376,000 (1.91%). While the programme was some way above the channel's slot average of 228,000 (1.11%) it was no match for last week's opener which pulled in 531,000 (2.67%).

Claiming the top spot in multichannel homes last night at 9pm was ITV2's Hell's Kitchen USA which drew 630,000 (3.21%) with a further 101,000 watching on ITV2+1 at 10pm.

Also pulling a sizeable audience at 9pm was the 2003 remake of The Italian Job which picked up 454,000 (2.75%) on E4 and another 178,000 on E4+1.

There was further decline and fall for Watch's Richard and Judy's New Position at 8pm with the talk show attracting just 32,000 (0.15%). The show added on an extra 10,000 at 9pm on Watch+1.
