NAB 2012: AJA Video Systems has teamed up with Canon to launch a 4K external video recorder, the Ki Pro Quad.

The portable recorder can capture files in formats including 4096 x 2160, 3840 x 2160, 2048 x 1080 and 1920 x 1080, with 10-bit 444 and 10-bit 422 colour support.

It takes 4K RAW via SDI and can simultaneously output the data via a Thunderbolt connection. It also debayers the RAW data, which can be used for 4K monitoring in real time.

AJA president Nick Rashby described the Ki Pro Quad as “the coolest thing we’ve ever made”.

The Ki Pro Quad is expected to ship “later this year”, at the same time as Canon’s C500, which was unveiled last week and requires an external recorder to capture 4K.

The recorder will cost $3,995 (£2,513).
