Canon has launched the XA30 and XA35, two camcorders that will join its X-series range.
Both cameras have the same design as their predecessors, the XA25 and XA20.
The compact models feature a newly-developed HD CMOS Pro sensor which Canon said would provide high sensitivity and improved low-light performance.
The inclusion of new wide dynamic range and highlight priority settings would make them “suitable for shooting everything from news and documentaries to weddings and corporate films”, Canon added.
Both cameras are equipped with a 1/2.84-type 2.91 megapixel HD CMOS Pro sensor with enhanced sensitivity with improved signal-to-noise ratio.
The 20x zoom wide-angle lens offers a 26.8–576mm (35mm equivalent) focal range and employs Canon’s intelligent 5-axis Optical Image Stabilization Systemwith Dynamic IS.
The lens also features an eight blade circular aperture to give enhanced bokeh, Canon said.
The cameras support AVCHD up to 28Mbps and MP4 up to 35Mbps file formats and include dual SD card slots.
Both the XA35 and XA30 are dual-band Wi-Fi enabled which allows for remote control of the camera, wireless file transfer, upload and browser preview via a smartphone or tablet.
The cameras are also compatible with Canon’s GP-E2 GPS receiver, meaning GPS data can be embedded in the metadata of video footage.
The XA35 is equipped with an HD/SD-SDI terminal.
The XA35 is priced at £1,849 while the XA30 will cost £1,449. Both will be available towards the end of December.
