Sony is working with Evertz to develop IP interoperability technology in a bid to cut the cost of live studio and sports broadcasts.

The manufacturers hope that the collaboration will enable facilities to use an IP infrastructure and support broadcasters moving from legacy SDI environments to IP-based set-ups.

The companies announced a strategic alliance at IBC in September and will now work on interoperability between their IPbased broadcast equipment, based on the support of Sony’s Networked Media Interface. The technology packetises and transmits HD and 4K video, audio and metadata in real time over standard network infrastructures.

Evertz’s IP-based systems include its Software Defined Video Network architecture, which includes the DreamCatcher instant replay system.

Sony is also developing lowlatency video codec technology to support the video compression required for 4K 60p transmission over 10 Gbps Ethernet.
