IBC 2014: Gearhouse Broadcast has agreed a multi-million pound deal to buy the first 50 of Hitachi’s new SK-UHD4000 4K UHD camera systems.

Gearhouse expects to take delivery of the first batch of cameras by December.

The cameras will be used for the first time at the 2015 AFC Asian Cup international football tournament which takes place in Australia in January.

Gearhouse Broadcast chief executive John Newton said: “This camera and order represents not only an investment in cutting edge technology but also sound commercial sense for Gearhouse and for our broadcasting partners around the world.”

The SK-UHD4000 4K, UHD camera system which can take the 2/3-inch B4 mount lenses used in conventional HD broadcast cameras.

Masahiko Kato of Hitachi’s Global Sales Division added: “This highlights Gearhouse’s continued support and commitment to the Hitachi brand and its innovative broadcast products.”
