NAB 2012: GoPro, the manufacturer of the HD Hero range of wearable cameras, is set to release a firmware upgrade that will boost the camera’s data rate and add the ability to shoot at 24fps.

Protune - which was developed in conjunction with Technicolor Cinestyle - is camera mode which GoPro said would lead to a more efficient workflow.

In a bid to reduce compression artefacts the camera’s data rate will be increased from 15mbps to 35mbps, while the ability to shoot at 24fps is intended to make it easier to intercut footage shot with a GoPro device with other sources.

A neutral colour profile will allow for greater latitude through the colour correction process.

The free firmware upgrade will only be available for the HD Hero 2, not the earlier HD Hero device.

It is due to be released in the next two months.
